Delhi’s power demand shoots up
Staff Reporter
Peak load on system recorded at 1-06 p.m.
NEW DELHI: The Capital’s demand for power shot up to 4,034 MW on Thursday, the highest so far this year.
According to Power Department officials, the peak load on the system was recorded at 1-06 p.m. The maximum load recorded last year was 4,030 MW, 4 MW lower than this year. The city also faced a shortfall of over 300 MW during the day. “There is some shortage of coal and consequently power production at Badarpur Thermal Plant and Singrauli has come down. While Singrauli is generating 1,400 MW against the usual 1,800-1900 MW, Badarpur Thermal Plant is generating about 579 MW instead of 630 MW,” said a Power Department official.
With no power coming in from the Damodar Valley Corporation, the Capital’s power crisis was aggravated. Delhi’s own power production stood at 1,212 MW, with production at Gas Turbine Plant being 142 MW, while Indraprastha generated 99 MW, Pragati 291 MW, Rajghat 101 MW and Badarpur Thermal Plant’s 579 M.
