The ITIs were sanctioned last year Gowribidnur ITI being upgraded BANGALORE: Minister for Labour B.N. Bacche Gowda said Rs. 21.17 crore had been sanctioned to purchase equipment in 44 newly established Industrial Training Institutes. In a reply to Qamar-ul-Islam (Congress) during question hour in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday, he said these 44 institutes were sanctioned in 2007-08, and many of them did not have the required equipment. To a question by Shivashankara Reddy (Congress), he said a government ITI had been functioning in Gowribidnur since 1989 with two trades, and it had a student capacity of 120. Under the Centres of Excellence scheme of the Union Government, the ITI was being upgraded with additional training facilities for 240 students, he said. HostelsMinister for Social Welfare D. Sudhakar said Rs. 10 crore had been set aside in the State Budget (2008-09) for the establishment of new post-matric girls’ hostels. There was demand to open 202 students’ hostels in the State. As many as 1,266 pre-matric and 300 post-matric boys’ and girls’ hostels provided accommodation to 94,333 students in the State, he said. In reply to a call attention notice by M.C. Sudhakar (Congress), the Minister said there were 2,349 vacant posts in pre- and post-matric hostels run by the department. Permission had been given to fill 27 senior warden posts, 250 warden posts and 406 group C and D vacancies in the Tribal Welfare section of the department. A decision had been taken to enhance food charges form Rs. 450 to Rs. 600 a month for pre-matric hostel students and from Rs. 500 to Rs. 650 for post-matric hostel students, he said.
