Varsity to give copy of answer sheet

CHENNAI: The Annamalai University has submitted before the Madras High Court that it will hand over after revaluation a photocopy of an answer sheet of a retired district Additional Public Prosecutor who was informed that he had failed in a subject in a postgraduate diploma course.

Following the submission by university counsel, Justice K.Venkataraman, treated as closed a writ petition seeking a copy of the answer sheet.

In his affidavit, A.Sankaran of Park Town submitted that he joined as an Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Grade II in Chengalpattu district. He was later promoted as Grade I APP.

While so, he was attached to the CB CID, Commercial Crime Investigation Wing CID. Subsequently, he was promoted as Assistant Director of Prosecution and as Additional Public Prosecutor in Nagapattinam district. After retiring in 2006, he resumed practice.

He joined the Post Graduate Diploma Course in Criminology and Forensic Science through distance education of the Annamalai University. He attended four examinations in May/June last year and was hoping high marks, but was informed that he had failed in Cr.P.C and Law of Evidence.

He applied for re-totalling and revaluation. He was informed that he had failed in the subject and got only 20 marks out of 100.

His representation in October last year seeking a photocopy of the answer script was in vain. Hence the present writ petition seeking a copy by considering his representation. Unless suitable direction was issued, the Controller of Examinations, Distance Education of the university (respondent) would not issue the answer sheet copy, the petitioner submitted.
