7-year jail term for robbery

CHENNAI: The second additional district and sessions judge, Chinnayya, on Thursday sentenced two persons to seven years rigorous imprisonment for committing a robbery on a moving train.
According to the prosecution, Moore Market Govindan and Dhanakumar alias Bhaja of Old Washermenpet had attacked three passengers, including a woman, on a suburban train on October 25, 2002, near Basin Bridge Junction and escaped with 2.5 sovereigns gold jewellery and some cash. The Korukkupet Railway Police had registered a case.
The judge sentenced the two to undergo seven years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs. 500 each.
