Rs. 14 crore to be released to the two hospitals Rs. 9.63 crore released to KIADB to acquire land BANGALORE: Minister for Medical Education Ramachandra Gowda informed the Legislative Assembly on Thursday that a sum of Rs. 14 crore would be released to set up intensive care units in Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital and Victoria Hospital in Bangalore. In a reply to R. Roshan Baig (Congress) during question hour, Mr. Gowda said Victoria Hospital had three burns wards, and the hospital had staff strength of 778. There was adequate stock of medicines in the hospital, he said. To a question from M. Srinivas (BJP), the Minister said 216 acres had been acquired for shifting the campus of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences from Bangalore to Ramanagara, and 145 acres had been handed over to the Public Works Department. A sum of Rs. 9.63 crore had been released to the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board, and further land acquisition was in progress, he said. Replying to Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli (Congress), Mr. Gowda said all the six newly established government medical colleges were functioning and had admitted 100 students each. For construction of buildings, Rs. 58.51 crore had been released to the Mandya medical college, Rs. 69.93 crore to the Hassan medical college, Rs. 50.12 crore to the Belgaum college, Rs. 40.25 crore to the Shimoga medical college, Rs. 58.92 crore to the Raichur medical college and Rs. 41.15 crore to the Bidar medial college, the Minister said. A Medical Council of India team had inspected the functioning of all the colleges and expressed its satisfaction, the Minister said.
