Pakistan’s academy team to tour Zimbabwe

Karachi: The international community might be moving to isolate Zimbabwe but the Pakistan Cricket Board is sending its national academy team there to play unofficial Tests and one-dayers in August.

The national academy team would visit Zimbabwe from August 20 to September 9 and then move to Kenya until September 28, it was announced on Thursday.

The team is yet to be announced by the selectors. The International Cricket Council (ICC) pushed for sanctions against the Zimbabwe Cricket at its last meeting in Dubai but it survived a ban because of support from the Asian bloc.

The PCB said its team would play two four-day Tests and three one-dayers in Harare before playing the same number of matches in Nairobi.

“The tour is aimed at promoting and developing the sport in these countries. Zimbabwe and Kenya need to play against top teams on a regular basis and these tours were finalised last year,” one official said.

Zimbabwe survived a ban by voluntarily pulling out of the 2009 Twenty20 World Cup in England. — PTI
