CHENNAI: G. Akash held former National ‘A’ player V. Subramanian of State Transport to a creditable draw in the fifth round of the S.K. Narasihman Memorial chess tournament played at the Nehru Stadium on Thursday. Akash, a student of Jawahar Vidyalaya, scored over Ajay Srikanth in the morning. In the afternoon, he drew Subramanian in 47 moves with white pieces in a Sicilian defence game to share the lead with five others. It includes top seed and defending champion Ram S. Krishnan (BSNL), R. Ashwath, Venkat Sundaram, M. Porko, V. Subramanian. Important results: Fifth round: G. Akash 4.5 drew with V. Subramanian 4.5, R. Ashwath 4.5 bt Abhilash Reddy 4, Ram S Krishnan 4.5 bt Venkata Krishna 3.5, Senthil Kumaran 4 drew with P. Maheswaran 4, Harihara Sudan 3.5 lost to M. Porko 4.5, K.V. Shantharam 4 bt R. Yogesh 3, K. Gopalakrishnan 3.5 drew with N. Rajkumar 3.5, Stanley Samson 4 bt T. Shyam Sundar 3. Fourth round: Abhilash Reddy bt K.V. Shantharam, V. Subramanian bt Senthil Kumar, Ajay Srikanth lost to G. Akash, S. Varahalu lost to Ram S Krishnan.
