34 persons nabbed from SIV premises
Staff Reporter
Mettupalayam: The Coimbatore Rural Police during a raid conducted on Thursday night at the defunct South India Viscose (SIV) factory premises at Sirumugai near Mettupalayam, about 45 km from here, secured 34 persons who were found roaming late in the night under suspicious circumstances.
The factory has remained closed for more than seven years and in the past there had been several attempts to steal the machinery for iron scrap.
Vandalism and theft of equipment kept rising day by day. On Thursday night, the police conducted a storming operation in an attempt to stop incidents of theft. They arrested those found inside the factory premises. Further investigation is on.
