Rat fever has claimed four lives: Ashok

BANGALORE: Leptospirosis (Weil’s disease or rat fever) has claimed the lives of four persons in Udupi district and malaria has claimed the lives of two persons in Dakshina Kannada district.
Transport Minister R. Ashok, who made a statement on behalf of Health Minister B. Sriramulu in the Legislative Assembly on Friday, said adequate stock of medicines had been supplied to both districts to control the spread of the diseases.
Dengue claimed one life in Nargund taluk in Gadag district, the Minister said. Chikungunya cases had been reported from Chickballapur, Haveri, Uttara Kannada, Bidar, Koppal, Chamarajangar, Hassan, Udupi, Chikmagalur and Kodagu districts, he said. Dengue cases were reported from Chitradurga, Bellary and Gulbarga districts while chikungunya and dengue cases were reported from Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, Ramanagara, Kolar, Tumkur, Davangere, Shimoga, Belgaum, Bagalkot, Dharwad, Gadag, Mysore and Dakshina Kannada districts, the Minister said.
