Rangers Mysore coasts to victory in youth basketball

BANGALORE: Rangers Mysore defeated Belgaum Basketball Club 40-11 in a boys’ match of the State youth championship basketball tournament at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium courts here on Friday.

The results:

Boys: Rangers Mysore 40 (Amogh 10) bt Belgaum BC 11.

VN Sports Club 53 (Akash 19, Nikilesh 14) bt VBC Mandya 34 (Prajwal 21).

Vimanapura SC 31 (Saurav 10) bt Sports School Chandargi 21.

Kanaka Kolar 41 (Pavan 10) bt YMMA 36 (Shyam 11).

Pinakini Gauribidanur 38 (Chirag 10) bt Durgans Chitradurga 15 (Kaleem 10).

Girls: Beagles BC 22 bt Belgaum BC 12.

STC Chennai finishes third

STC Pondicherry beat STC Thrissur 3-1 in the classification match for the fifth and sixth position in the SAI South Zone inter-hostel hockey championship here on Friday.

In another match for the third and fourth places, STC Chennai beat STC Kollam 5-0.

The final between STC Bangalore and STC Secunderabad is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Social Cricketers posts win

Social Cricketers defeated Vultures CC by five wickets in a KSCA Group I, first division league match here recently. Chasing 169 in the second innings, Social Cricketers scored 170 for five in 49.1 overs with K.B. Pawan chipping in with a 71.

The scores:

Vultures CC 144 in 58.2 overs (S.L. Akshay four for 42) and 135 in 49.2 overs lost to Social Cricketers 111 in 28.5 overs (Anirudha Joshi four for 30) and 170 for five in 49.1 overs (K.B. Pawan 71).

Jupiter CA 198 in 66.3 overs (Savan 101, Naveen four for 52) and 139 in 39.1 overs (Mahesh 40, Naveen four for 30, Sunil Raju four for 80) drew with FUCC (1) 229 for nine decl. in 42.5 overs (B. Akhil 91, Shyam Ponnappa 65, B.A. Savan six for 42) and 34 for three in six overs.

Wadiyar CC 327 for nine decl. in 105.1 overs (Harsha Tiptur 133, Girish Rao 50) drew with Jawahar SC (2) 167 for five in 43.4 overs (Abbas 73, B. Rajashekar four for 59).

Akshay keeps winning

Top-seeded Akshay Mohanta of Harsha Table Tennis Academy (Mysore) continued his fine form in the State circuit, by winning his third sub-junior singles title in a row.

He registered a 11-4, 5-11, 11-7, 11-8 win over third-seeded Deepak Dev of PTTA (Mysore) in the finalof the State-ranking table tennis tournament at the Chamundivihar Stadium complex in Mysore on Friday.

The results (finals):

Sub-junior boys singles: Akshay Mohanta (HTTA) bt Deepak Dev (PTTA) 11-4, 5-11, 11-7, 11-8.

Sub-junior girls singles: Maithreye Bailoor (Bgm) bt L. Suhani (Hor) 11-7, 11-5, 6-11, 11-4.

Cadet girls singles: Ridhi Rohit (PTTA) bt Shivani Poovaiah (PTTA) 11-7, 11-7, 7-11, 11-7.

Mini-cadet boys singles: Sucheth Shenoy (Hor) bt Amogh Athani (STTA) 14-12, 9-11, 8-11, 11-2, 11-8.

Mini-cadet girls singles: M.V. Spoorthy (HTTA) bt Medhini (Hor) 11-6, 6-11, 11-7, 11-8.

Rain plays spoilsport

Heavy overnight rain forced the KSCA to postpone the Shafi Darashah cricket tournament matches by a day.

The matches initially scheduled to commence at the NRA and RSI grounds in Bangalore on Friday, will now be held on Saturday and Sunday.
