BHUBANESWAR: Postal Department has decided to improve working conditions of Grameen Dak Sevaks (GDS), who have long been serving in remote rural areas. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Chief Postmaster General of Orissa Circle, K.V Sundar Rajan said 16,849 GDS in the State would be benefited by a series of initiatives taken by Union Minister of State for Communication and IT Jyotiraditya M. Scindhia recently. He said GDS who used to work in their own accommodation were getting paltry remuneration. Now they would be entitled to get electric fans and contingency fund, allowances for chappals, he said. Moreover Ministry of Human Resources Development had been requested to consider the possibility of allowing admissions to wards of GDS in Kendriya Vidyalaya of the country at par with the other Central government employees, Mr. Sundar Rajan said.
