Agitation paralyses working of CI’s office

Staff Reporter

Agitators are cooking food in front of the CI office

CI accused of giving wrong reports

BERHAMPUR: The office of the Circle Inspector (CI) of Schools for Ganjam and Gajapati districts in the city remains locked up since Monday due continuing agitation by inhabitants of different villages.

All these villagers are from Aska education district and they are demanding upgradation of the primary schools in their villages. They are even cooking their food in front of the CI office and spending nights near its gate. These villagers are not letting any official of the CI office enter the office premises including the CI, Balmiki Pradhan. Although the villagers claim that they have locked up the CI office in protest as per the officials the lock put on the gate of the office is theirs rather than of the villagers.

It all started with the agitation by villagers of Gangapur on Monday. They were demanding the upper primary school established in their village before independence to be upgraded up to class VIII. Around 300 inhabitants of the village sat round the clock in front the CI office till Wednesday evening. After getting some hopes and promises from the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), southern range, the villagers of Gangapur had returned back to their village.

But on Wednesday afternoon another group of villagers from Balichhai village had reached the spot along with cooking materials and other things to stay back for few days. They also had the same demand of upgradation of their primary school up to class VIII. On Thursday with similar demand inhabitants of Krushnachhai village near Aska area reached the CI office to camp before it as a mark of agitation.
