BHUBANESWAR: The State on Friday got its first “comprehensive” encyclopaedia written in Oriya Language. Prepared by Jnanmandal Foundation, the encyclopaedia, Taruna Jnanmandal, has as many as 1,600 pages with subject lists spreading across 1,660 chapters. The six-volume book also incorporates 1,700 demonstrative pictures. Releasing the encyclopaedia here at Capital High School, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said an informative book like Taruna Jnanmandal should find place in every school. He said students must develop reading habits and new books would help them in this endeavour. Before the encyclopaedia was published, a survey was conducted among students, teachers and intellectuals about the need of this kind of an encyclopaedia, Pabak Kanungo, secretary of Jnanmandal Foundation, said. “We have been maintaining and updating 30,000 reference files at our research centre. We have also taken the help of National Encyclopedia Centre to come out with this comprehensive book,” Mr. Kanungo said. The meeting was chaired by the noted writer Pathani Patnaik. Among others editor of the encyclopaedia Deepak Kanungo.
