HYDERABAD: The Transport Department has seized over 100 private buses in the past month for violations that include non-payment of the mandatory tax, misuse of district permits and running them as stage carriages while possessing contract carriage permits. Transport Commissioner Raymond Peter said the special teams formed to curb such violations would continue with the checks. The department was determined to ensure compliance of operators with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the stipulations of the Andhra Pradesh Motor Vehicles Rules, he said. While several operators had fallen in line, there were still those who were continuing to evade taxes and operating throughout the State while holding one or two district permits and running on inter-State routes with just a State permit, he regretted. He said in the checks, vehicles being run by travel operators in the name of Kaleswari, Sahara, Sangeetha, Venkataramana, and Diwakar were found either misusing permits or carrying commercial load.
