GETTING READY: Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad being spruced up on the eve of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s visit. HYDERABAD: Two days after the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) won comfortably the trust vote in the Parliament, AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi will lead the Congress party’s charge on the Indo-US civilian nuclear deal by taking the issue to the people. After making a passionate plea in Parliament in favour of the nuclear deal on July 22, Mr. Gandhi will now directly interact with the student community on Saturday evening in Hyderabad. The State unit of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) is organising a ‘123 ki pathshala – A discussion on nuclear agreement’ at Ravindra Bharati on Saturday evening. In his 90-minute-long interaction, Mr. Gandhi will field questions from students and academics. PanellistsPanellists for the interactive session would be Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University Prof. Tirupati Rao, environmentalist K. Purushotham Reddy and former director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre Dr. Anand. It was pointed out that there was enthusiastic response from the student community to attend the meeting. But, citing security reasons, only 1,500 students and academics are likely to be allowed for the meet. “Politicians are a strict no for the meeting. Except for NSUI office-bearers, students and academics, no one else will be allowed,” a source said. Media to be barredMeanwhile, PCC chief D. Srinivas told reporters that the media would be barred from entering Gandhi Bhavan during the maiden visit of Mr. Rahul Gandhi on Sunday. Mr. Srinivas was giving details of Mr. Gandhi’s itinerary. He said the media would not be allowed to enter the premises due to security constraints till the leader left Gandhi Bhavan, which was getting a complete facelift on the eve of the 75-minute long visit. Mr. Gandhi is expected to arrive at Gandhi Bhavan at 10 a.m. and spend 15 minutes with the heads of the frontal organisations, cells and departments, Mr. Srinivas said. He is expected to take a look at the IT department, which has developed user friendly programmes for the party units in the State. He will inaugurate a set of computers that link the State office to the district. He will hold a teleconference with the DCC chiefs and later the State executive committee meeting which will be attended by Ministers, legislators and senior party leaders. He is scheduled to leave at 11.15 am for Vikas Concept School at Miyapur to attend the valedictory the of five-day training programme ‘Aam Admi Ke Sipahi’ for the Youth Congress office bearers.
