IAS officer gets four-year jail in fodder case

Ranchi: A special CBI court on Friday sentenced serving IAS officer and Jharkhand Transport Secretary Sajjal Chakraborty to four years’ rigorous imprisonment in a fodder scam case.

The case relates to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 39 crore from the Chaibasa treasury. The court of Justice B. K. Sahay also fined Chakraborty Rs 3.5 lakh, in case of default six months rigorous imprisonment.

The IAS officer, who was the deputy commissioner of Chaibasa when the case was unearthed, was on bail till his conviction on July 14.

After award of the punishment, ailing Chakraborty was sent back to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences where he was admitted after his conviction.

The court on July 14 convicted him and 63 others in case 51a/96.

This was the 28 of the 53 multi-crore fodder scam cases, in which convictions were made. PTI
