BANGALORE: Chethan S. Kumar was at the bus stand near Madiwala Check Post when the bomb exploded behind him. Initially dazed, it took him some time to understand what was happening. He turned around and to his horror, saw a woman lying on the footpath in a pool of blood.

“I went temporarily deaf and when I recovered from the shock I realised that the back of my head was bleeding,” he told The Hindu, speaking from his bed at St. John’s Hospital.

Three of the nine blasts occurred near Koramangala and five of the injured were rushed to the nearby St. John’s Hospital. While two of them were discharged in the evening, three are in stable condition, medical officer Srinivas said.

Munniraju G. (29), a businessman from S.R. Nagar, had reached the gate of the Adugodi Textile Bank when a big stone slammed into his right cheek tearing through the muscle. He was unable to speak due to heavy swelling in his cheek. His father S. Gopal said he had been given sedatives and doctors were assessing the extent of his injury.

Muniyappa Srinivas (25), suffered lacerations on his back by stone pieces that flew at him following the explosion near the Adugodi petrol bunk.

Two software engineers, Ravindran Kanakaraj and Ramesh Raghu, were riding a motorcycle when the bomb exploded inside the circle opposite Mallya Hospital. While Mr. Kanakaraj was injured in the forehead, Mr. Raghu suffered injuries in the limbs due to stones and iron particles that brushed past them. “We were rattled by the sudden explosion but were not close enough to the circle to suffer serious injuries. The particles that flew at us just scraped our bodies,” said Mr. Kanakaraj, visibly embarrassed by all the media attention.

Both were treated at Mallya Hospital.

Of the five admitted, three are stable and two discharged, medical officer Srinivas said.
