Rs. 78 crore loans waived

KARUR: Agricultural loans totalling Rs. 78.24 crore secured by 32,327 small and marginal farmers in Karur district has been waived under the Central Government’s Agricultural Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme, according to Collector T.N. Venkatesh.
The Collector has also noted that the entire loan amount of small and marginal farmers have been waived while in respect of other farmers 25 per cent or a maximum of Rs. 20,000 of the overdue amount has been given as relief subject to the condition that those farmers have to repay the balance 75 per cent in three instalments between September 2008 and June 2009.
List displayed
The list of all farmers and the amount they are eligible for have been displayed at all the bank branches in the district.
