PDS rice seized

KARUR: Rice meant for supply to people through the Public Distribution System (PDS) but was being smuggled from Thanjavur to Kerala was seized here late on Thursday.

Based on a tip-off, District Supply Officer Siddar Mahalingam, Flying Squad Tahsildar N. Ramaiah, Special Tahsildar A. Sivakumar, and Civil Supplies officials from Erode intercepted a lorry at Seethapatti in Kadavur block which was carrying 400 50-kg ration rice bags. The lorry was seized along with the consignment while the driver K. Thangavel (45) of Namakkal district was arrested.
