CHIKMAGALUR: The Red Ribbon Express which is on a mission to educate people on HIV/AIDS will arrive at Birur railway station on August 2, Deputy Commissioner of Chikmagalur district R. Narayanaswamy said here on Thursday. Mr. Narayanaswamy told presspersons that a rousing welcome would be accorded to the occupants of the train on platform no. 3 on August 3. He said committees had been formed in gram panchayats and they had been informed of the importance of the programme. A route map had been prepared and four villages had been allotted to each of the six troupes which would perform to convey the message about preventing the spread of AIDS, he said. In addition to this, local artistes will perform in another 24 villages on August 2. He said that there was insufficient information about HIV/AIDS among the public. Mr. Narayanaswamy said an appeal had been made to K.S. Eshwarappa, district in-charge Minister, to participate in the inauguration function.
