A participant at the Hometown’s bathroom singer competition. HYDERABAD: You could sit on the toilet seat, or in the bath tub or simply stand in the shower and sing like you would in a bathroom! This was the concept behind the innovative contest ‘HomeTown Bathroom Singer’ held in the HomeTown showroom here on Friday. The competition was a complete laughter riot, with over 15 participants singing popular Hindi and Telugu songs while using the props. The contest was judged by cine-actress Sonia of ‘Happy Days’ fame and music director R.P. Patnaik. “We are not looking for great singers, who have rehearsed a song and come, rather we are looking for a spontaneous singer who sings for himself / herself,” said Sonia during the contest. Neha, whose spontaneity was appreciated by the judges, was declared the first prize winner and awarded a gift voucher worth Rs.10, 000. Dinesh, who sang ‘Aa Bhi Jaa’ as he sat on the commode, not just invited peals of laughter from the audience but also went on to bag the second prize, a gift voucher from HomeTown. Mahesh Shah, CEO HomeTown said that the contest was introduced as a part of the ongoing ‘Bathroom Week’ at HomeTown to engage the customers. Based on an innovative radio based reality show aired on Radiocity 91.1 FM, the contestants were zeroed in by auditioning them on air for the last 10 days.
