CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Friday granted interim stay of the operation of an order transferring eight police personnel from Ariyalur district to Tiruchirappalli district. Passing interim orders, Justice N. He ordered interim stay till then. In the common affidavit, filed by counsel K. Balu and A. Murugavel, K. Selvakumar and seven others said they were working under the control of the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jayankondam. While six of them were Head Constables, other two were a Grade-I Constable and Constable. They submitted that president of the Vanniyar Sangam J. Gurunathan alias Guru was arrested on July 5 and later detained under the NSA. The residence of Mr. Guru fell within the limits of the Meensurutti police station (under the DSP, Jayankondam). The police personnel said all of them belonged to the Vanniar community. They were not facing any charges. They had not sought a transfer. That being so, by an order dated July 17, the Superintendent of Police, Ariyalur, transferred them. The Inspectors concerned were instructed to relieve them immediately.
