Chennai: Seventh seed Venkat Sundaram scored over sixth seed V. Subramanian in the sixth round of the third S.K. Narasihman Memorial FIDE-rating chess tournament being played at the Nehru Stadium on Friday. Venkat Sundaram, 22, a former University of Madras player won in 37 moves with the black pieces to join the top two seeds Ram S. Krishnan (BSNL) and Ashwath Raja at the top with five and a half points. Five rounds remain to be played. Ram won against 12-year-old G. Akash, while Ashwath made short work of M. Porkko. Important results (round six): G. Akash 4.5 lost to Ram S. Krishnan 5.5; M. Porkko 4.5 lost to R. Ashwath 5.5; V. Subramanian 4.5 lost to Venkat Sundaram 5.5; P. Maheswaran 5 bt J. Saranya 4; R.K. Athavan 4 lost to K.V. Shantharam 5; Ajay Srikanth 4.5 drew with Akash Iyer 4.5; Abhilash Reddy 4.5 drew with E. Sharath 4.5; Anna Rao 4 lost to Stanley Samson 5; Samsen Austin 4.5 drew with K. Venkatesan 4.5; Ganesh 5 bt Senthil Kumaran 4; Eshwanth Dev 3.5 lost to K. Gopalakrishnan 4.5.
