BANGALORE: India Post on Friday released its Pin Code Directory in CD form comprising pin codes of over 1.5 lakh post offices in India.

Handing over the first copy of the directory to M.P. Rajan, Chief Postmaster General of Karnataka Circle, Meera Datta, Member (Operations), Postal Services Board, New Delhi, said the directory was entirely the contribution of the Postal Training Centre, Mysore. She thanked S. Rajendra Kumar, Director, Postal Training Centre, and his team for having brought out such a useful directory.

She said the pin code, introduced in 1972, had helped communication in the country, especially amongst government departments and the corporate sector. Its usage got a boost after the launch of Speed Post.

She appealed to all the corporates and government offices to make use of the directory, which was priced at Rs. 2,000 and available at Bangalore General Post Office.

She said that a system of mentioning pin plus code number for every postman had been introduced. Customers may obtain the beat code at delivery post offices or from the beat postman so as to ensure correct and prompt delivery of their mail. She said that the Department would increase the number of mail sorting machines in the 11th Plan.
