Plea to shift family court

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Members of the Thiruvananthapuram Bar Association has demanded that the family court operating at Sreekaryam be shifted to the building, which houses the office of the District Collector at Vanchiyoor once the building is vacated.

The office of the Collector is expected to be shifted to the new civil station building at Kudappanakkunnu shortly. According to the bar association, relocation of the family court will ease the financial burden on litigants who now have to pay transportation charge for lawyers.

Meanwhile, the indefinite satyagraha launched by the members of the association demanding the setting up of a High Court Bench in the capital city completed 162 days on Friday. Inaugurating the satyagraha, C.K. Sitaram, president of the bar association, called for an improved relationship between lawyers and judicial officers.

The Kerala Advocate Clerks Association has urged Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs M. Vijayakumar to launch a pension scheme for its members. A proposal in this regard, approved by the Welfare Board, waes already pending before the government for clearance, said K. Prakasan, president of the association.
