BSNL mela a big draw

Staff Reporter

Aluva: The ‘Telephone m ela’ organised by the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) here as part of its ongoing efforts to extend customer base and better services was a resounding success, with business worth Rs 25.67 lakh taking place in two-and-a-half days.

“That is a huge leap as the previous m ela held at Palarivattom last month only fetched Rs 7 lakh,” Mr. S. Gopalakrishnan Nair, area manager, BSNL, told The Hindu. He also said that the company would put up 17 more mobile towers in areas adjoining Aluva to have carpet coverage in the region.

Seeking to give its competitors a run for their money, the m ela had on offer attractive schemes besides handsome discounts on tariffs.

It also featured 3G technology such as the EVDO, which promises Internet connection on the move at a download speed of up to 2 megabytes per second.
