First woman commander of AIE will operate the flight THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Air India Express (AIE), the no-frills airline of Air India, will operate an all-women crew flight led by AIE’s first Commander Chameli Krottapalli on Sunday in the Chennai-Singapore-Chennai sector. The flight is being operated with an all-women crew to recognise Capt. Chameli’s elevation to the post of Commander, according to a spokesman of the airline. The co-pilot and all the four cabin crew of the flight will all be women. Capt. Chameli, who joined the airline in November 2004, has become the first woman Commander of Air India Express. Of the 76 pilots on the Air India Express rolls, only six are women. Through this, the airline intends to convey the message that it is an ‘equal opportunity employer.’ Moreover, the budget airline wants to highlight Capt. Chameli’s achievement and to motivate more women to enter the aviation field. The IX 662/IX661 flight will have Capt Amrit Nambhari as the co-pilot. The cabin crew will include S. Banu, P. Phupia, S. Divya and Binal Valand.
