ZP members vote to oust president

Staff Correspondent

BIJAPUR: A special general body meeting of the Bijapur Zilla Panchayat held here on Saturday passed a no-confidence motion against panchayat president Sangeeta Dinni and vice-president Baburao Maitre.

Of the 38 members, only 24 were present for the meeting: 11 from the Congress, 10 from the JD (S) and three from the BJP. Difference cropped up 10 months ago over who should become president. The post was reserved for the BCs ‘A’ category, and Ms. Dinni and Apsarabegum Chapparband were the contenders. The KPCC observer brokered an agreement that the two should share power for ten months each. Accordingly, Ms. Dinni was made president for the first 10 months and Mr. Maitre became vice-president. August 8 is the last day of their 10-month term, and Ms. Dinni and Mr. Maitre submitted resignations to KPCC President recently. But resignations had to be submitted to Regional Commissioner.
