Good knock by Anandakumar

Karaikudi: Anandakumar’s unbeaten 70 helped KLN College of Information Tech. Pottapalayam defeat SACS-MAVMM Engineering College, Madurai by 46 runs in the Anna University zone IX inter-Collegiate cricket tournament on Sunday.

The scores: KLN CIT Pottapalayam 165 for one in 25 overs (Anandakumar 70 not out, Senthil three for 34, Siddarth 41 not out) bt SACS-MAVMM EC Madurai 119 for nine in 25 overs (Anburaman three for 17, Siddarth three for 23); ACCET, Karaikudi 144 for eight in 25 overs (Damodharan 33, Selvendran 32) lost to PTR College of Engg. Tech. Austinpatti 145 for nine in 24.5 overs.

Pandyan Saraswathi Yadhava EC Arasanur 85 in 22.4 overs (George Prakash four for 17, Selva Ganesh three for 13) lost to Syed Ammal EC Ramanathapuram 89 for one in 10.1 overs (Sakthi Ganesh 43 not out) B.Tech CECR, 104 in 20.5 overs lost to Mount Zion CE, Lena Vilakku 105 for five in 17.3 overs (George Verghese 53); Bharath Niketan EC Andipaati 149 in 23 overs (Vinodh 37, Jose four for 12) tied with RVS CE, Dindigul 149 in 24.5 overs (Vinodh three for 25), RVS won on Bowled out (1-0).

State-level hockey

Twenty teams, including defending champion Southern Railway Chennai, last years runner-up ICF, IOB, SBI, Reserve Bank, Indian Bank, TN Special Police, SAI (all from Chennai), Ever Great HC, Vadipatti, GK Motors HC, Thirunagar HC (all from Madurai) and host Reserve Line Sports Club will be participating in the 26th annual Rajamani-Kanagamani Ammal memorial Trophy State-level hockey tournament, which will get under way at the Madurai Police centenary stadium, Madurai in Monday.

Semifinalists spotted

At Tiruchi, Host MAM CE, Jayaram CET, JJ CET and PAB CET entered the semifinals of the Anna University zone-8 inter-collegiate football tournament here on Saturday.

The results (quarterfinals): MAM CE 4 bt Tiruchi EC 0; Jayaram CET 3 bt Saranathan EC 1; JJ CET 3 bt Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan EC 1.
