BANGALORE: The Beijing-bound Anup Sridhar and Rehan Poncha were honoured at a function by their Alma Mater, Shree Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College, here. Chenraj Jain, Chairman, Jain Group of Institutions hailed the two youngsters and said that they have done the Jain Group proud by making it to the Olympics. He wished them all success at Beijing and presented both withcheques of Rs. 25,000 each. Jain also promised to support their training programmes in future. Both Poncha and Sridhar thanked Jain for his gesture and the fellow students at the Jain College for their support. They said they would do their best at the Olympics. Big win for STC BangaloreSTC Bangalore swamped STC Secunderabad 9-3 to win the title in the Sports Authority of India South Zone inter-hostel hockey tournament here on Saturday. Dominating the match from the word go, host Bangalore stroked in four goals in the first half and five in the second half to score an emphatic win. Vineett Michael (3rd) opened the scoring for STC Bangalore and within a minute Nitin Thimmaiah sounded the boards. Deepak Bijwad (14th) scored off a penalty corner even as STC Secunderabad was reeling under the onslaught. Durga Prasad (15th) brought some cheer for the visiting side in an otherwise depressing first half for Secunderabad. The second half too was one sided as Deepak Bijwad (42nd) swept in his second penalty corner goal. Vineet Michael (45th) also scored off a penalty corner and Nilesh (47th) made it 7-1 for STC Bangalore. Sandeep Raju (63rd) scored STC Secunderabad’s second goal but the home side was relentless in its pursuit of goals.
