Namakkal Collector inspects NREGS works

Staff Reporter

NAMAKKAL: Collector U. Sagayam called upon elected representatives of local bodies and officials to inform the police and the district administration about the movement of anti-social elements.

Inspecting development works being carried out under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) and Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam (AGAMT) in Tiruchengode block recently, the Collector expressed serious concern over the continuing incidents of chain snatching and thefts in the block and some other parts in the district.

Information

Village administrative officers and elected representatives should give information about those who were involved in anti-social activities, arrack traders and those who employed children to the administration.

The information would be very helpful for the administration to act swiftly and ensure peace in the district. Concerted efforts were being made to prevent thefts, he added.

Action

Mr. Sagayam cautioned that stringent action would also be initiated againstcontractors and officials if irregularities were found in the execution of development works.

Quality should be ensured in all the works carried out under NREGS and AGAMT.

Namakkal district received Rs. 25 crore under NREGS.

A sum of Rs. 75 lakh had been spent on development works in 331 panchayats so far. He advised the elected representatives to plant saplings on the bunds of channels.

Areas

The Collector inspected works in Sithalanthur, C. Thottipalayam, Sirumolasi, Periyakadu, Aattamparai and Iraiyamangalam.

District Rural Development Agency Project Officer P. Renuga Devi and senior officials accompanied the Collector during the inspection.
