PANAJI: The State-owned Goa Handicrafts, Rural and Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Ltd. has mooted a scheme of financial assistance for local clay idol-makers (artisans). The scheme is intended to motivate traditional clay idol-makers so as to encourage this traditional art form and to encourage the artisans to face the competition from the makers of idols of plaster of Paris. he Goa Government has banned the idols made of plaster of Paris in the State on environmental grounds ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
