Thiruvananthapuram: The Agriculture Department will make arrangements to made adequate quantity of vegetables available in Kerala during the Onam season. A meeting convened by Agriculture Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran and attended by the Agricultural Production Commissioner, the Director of Agriculture and the heads of various corporations decided to organise a ‘vegetable mela’ in Thiruvananthapuram, nine melas at the district level and four at the regional level. The Horticorp would in addition to distributing vegetables through its 600 outlets, organise vegetable melas in all 140 Assembly constituencies and mobilise 10 mobile outlets. The Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council Keralam would organise three district and 50 rural melas. The Horticorp would distribute 2 lakh vegetable kits by reducing the price by as much as 25 per cent. Marayur molasses, Kerala coconut oil, bananas and banana chips would be distributed. In Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam payasa melas would also be organised. The State-level inauguration of Onam markets would be held in Thiruvananthapuram on September 7.
