BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Friday dismissed a petition by a woman from Chitradurga district seeking payment of compensation for the death of her husband, who was a farmer. In her petition, Shivarudramma said her husband H. Mallappa was debt ridden and that he had borrowed heavily from private money lenders. She claimed that Mallappa had borrowed money from a nationalised bank in 2007 and could not repay it. She said her husband committed suicide on May 31, 2007 by jumping into a tank at Managi in Chitradurga district. She said she filed a claim for compensation of Rs. 1 lakh with the district administration. The Deputy Commissioner rejected her claim on the grounds that the bank had not sent any recovery notice to her husband. Justice N. Kumar dismissed the petition.
