Seats remain vacant in several departments of BU

University extends last date for filing applications to Aug.8

BERHAMPUR: Seats remain vacant in several departments of Berhampur University as students show little interest to get admitted into traditional courses.

The student intake capacities of only the few departments offering professional courses have been filled up.

The Berhampur University authorities had to readvertise and extend the last date of acceptance of applications for admissions for the current academic year.

The last date for filing applications has now been extended till August 8. As per the Post Graduate (PG) Council chairperson of the university, R.C.Panigrahy they may have to publish repeated

advertisements till the end of August to fill up the seats meant for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students.

The seats meant for these students have not been filled up in almost all departments except the professional courses.

But the university authorities have decided to end the admission procedure by the end of August whether the seats get filled up or not so that it did not hamper the schedule of semesters of the university.

Traditional courses

Mr Panigrahy accepted that during the current academic session the interest of students in traditional courses has gone down drastically. Till now no one has taken admission in the Linguistic Department.

Only one student has enrolled for the oceanography course. Only five students have taken admission in the Zoology Department which has 24 seats.
