BJD youth wing to hold rally on July 30

Special Correspondent

BHUBANESWAR: The activists of the youth and student wings of the ruling Biju Janata Dal are now a busy lot. The two wings of the regional outfit are working overtime to organise a Vikash Samavesh in the city on July 30.

The State-level rally, which will be held at Unit-IV playground, is likely to be attended by over 30,000 youths and students from different corners of the State.

Interestingly, the youth and student wings of the party were virtually lying defunct since a long time. The last time the youth wing held a State-level rally was in 2003. Both the wings were activated this month.

Show of strength

In fact, the Samavesh would be a show of strength for the party.

Though it would be held under the banner of the youth and student wings, senior leaders of the party would address it to activate the party organisation ahead of the forthcoming polls.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Ministers belonging to the party, and other leaders have all been requested to address the rally.

What would be the focus of the July 30 Samavesh? The rally would primarily have two objectives, according to sources.

In the first place, the party wants to bring the workers of the youth and student wings together with a view to activate the two organisations across the State.

Achievements

Secondly, the party would highlight the achievements of the State government and give a fresh trust to its anti-UPA government stand on various issues.

Of the achievements that would be highlighted the most was the latest scheme to provide rice at Rs. 2 per kg to the BPL families across the State and also to the APL families in the KBK districts from August 1.
