CHITRADURGA: Educationist K.M. Veeresh has been re-elected president of the district Kannada Sahitya Parishat. Nine candidates had filed their nominations, but eight of them withdrew, paving way for Mr. Veeresh to get elected unopposed. Addressing presspersons on behalf of the eight candidates, Challakere Yerriswamy said here on Saturday that their decision to withdraw from the contest was taken in the interests of the district. Mr. Yerriswamy said that since Chitradurga was to host the 75th Kannada Sahitya Sammelan, it was necessary that they all joined hands for the success of the prestigious event. “A few people were making some accusations against the Kannada Sahitya Parishat of Chitradurga. We wanted such controversies to be eliminated to show that all the members are united. With this sole intention, we unanimously elected Mr. Veeresh president of the parishat,” he said. Mr. Veeresh thanked the other contestants for electing him and said he would strive to ensure that the sammelan was a success. “With great difficulty we have got the chance to host the event; therefore, people of the district should unite for the cause,” he said.
