U.S. national held
A native of Virginia in the United States was arrested on charges of stealing a diamond stud (ear ring) from a jewellery shop here on Saturday.
Police said Santa alias Mosam Asin (37), a dancer by profession, had come here to learn Bharatanatyam. On Friday she went to the jewellery shop to buy studs. However, she returned without making any purchase. While verifying stock particulars before closing the shop, the owner, Pramod Jain, noticed that a diamond stud worth about Rs. 1.1 lakh was missing.
The closed circuit camera television showed the woman keeping the missing jewellery in her pocket. Based on a complaint , the Nungambakkam police searched the premises of the suspect at Mylapore. The diamond stud was found concealed in an almirah. Santa was arrested and remanded in judicial custody, the police said.
