Karthikeyan Murali in lead

Chennai: Karthikeyan Murali was on top in the boys’ under-15 category with four points at the end of the fourth round in Super Kids first state level chess tournament organised by the Srinivasa Sports Academy at JNS Jain Vidyalaya on Saturday. Over 275 entries have been received for the event which has competitors from Sri Lanka, UAE and Oman.

The event was inaugurated by S. Thyagarajan, Associate Editor (Sports), The Hindu, on Saturday. M. Varadarajan, Secretary, SSA, welcomed the gathering.

Leading players in respective categories:

Boys: Under 15: K. Karthikeyan Murali 4-4; Under-12: S. Yogit, M. Siddarth, S. Lokknath 4-4; Under-10: R. Hari Vallaba, U.R. Arvind Chidambaram, C. Sai Viswesh 4-4; Under-8: P. Maithreyan, K. Hari Hara Sudaran, R.Visweswaran, M. Hemant 3-3

Girls: Under 15: Shruthi Kamath, R. Aiswarya, G. Rohini 3-3; Under-12: M. Sandya, P. Balamanjula 3-3; Under-10: A. Prakruthi, R. Manjula 3-3; Under-8: CMN Sunyuktha, K. Rakshana, K. Krithigga 3-3.

District rapid chess

The Chennai District Chess Association will conduct the Chennai District rapid chess championships in the age groups under-8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 for boys and girls on August 10, at the Hall of Chess, Nehru Stadium.

Only registered Chennai District players are eligible to participate, and entries close on August 8. The entry fee is Rs. 100, and CDCA’s registration fee for 2008-09 is Rs. 60.

Junior tennis

Krishnan Tennis Centre will conduct the ABI Showatech Junior Tennis tournament from August 11 to 16. This is a TN State-ranking event for girls and boys in the under-18 age group, in singles and doubles. Entries close on August 4.
