YSCA XI in last four

Chennai: YSCA XI won its fifth consecutive match (with a bonus point) to enter the semifinals of the SSI-YSCA Trophy cricket tournament.

YSCA defeated Elixir Solutions by 122 runs to make it to the last four.

The scores: YSCA XI 218 for four in 30 overs (N. Satheesh 69, P. Sanjay Kumar 44) bt Elixir Solutions 96 in 25.3 overs (Samuels, Karthikeyan four for 30). Points: YSCA XI: 5. Elixir Solutions: -1.

Ashok Leyland (Corporate) 157 for eight in 30 overs lost to Sutherland Global 161 for five in 21.4 overs (Shankar 49, C.R. Lakshman four for 42). Points: Sutherland Global: 4. Ashok Leyland Corporate: 0.

St. John’s wins title

St. John’s (Besant Nagar) rode on skipper P.T. Sivanesan’s fine knock to clinch the G. Rajkumar Memorial CBSE Schools under-16 cricket tournament recently.

Sivanesan, who had made an unbeaten 101 in the semifinal against Jawahar Vidyalaya SSS, contributed 68 in the final against PSBB (T.P. Road) and shared a fourth wicket stand of 102 with Shikkar Hukku, who made 57.

Hukku, who won the best all-rounder award for the tournament, was instrumental in reducing PSBB to 77 for eight in its 25 overs, grabbing two wickets for just eight runs.

Sivanesan was adjudged Man of the Match in the final, as well as Man of the Series. Teammate P.S. Rahul was declared the best bowler and V. Vignesh of St. John’s (RA Puram) the best fielder.

The scores: Final: St. John’s (Besant Nagar) 195 for three in 25 overs (P.T. Sivanesan 68 n.o., Shikkar Hukku 57 n.o., S.R. Vibhu 32) bt PSBB (T.P. Road) 77 for eight in 25 overs.

Under-19 selection

Nets selection for the city round-robin under-19 cricket teams will be held on August 1 and 2. Boys born on or after September 1, 1989, can register their names with the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association on or before 6 p.m., July 31.

Registration forms are available at the TNCA office on all working days from July 25, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
