Arrangements in place for ritual

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has made arrangements for the annual rituals in connection with the ‘Karkidaka vavu bali’ on August 1.

The board has appointed special officers to ensure facilities for devotees at the temples and ‘bali kadavus’ at Thiruvallam, Varkala, Sanghumughom, Aruvikkara, Thrivikramangalam, Kadhinamkulam, Rameswaram, Keraladityapuram, Neyyatinkara and Thrikulangara in the district.

A meeting convened by the Devaswom Commissioner here on Saturday assessed the preparations and issued directives to ensure adequate facilities for the devotees.

At the Thiruvallam Sri Parasurama Temple, the sale of tickets for the ‘Vavu bali’ offering commenced on July 24. Tickets will be available at the temple counter during working hours. A press note issued here on Saturday said more counters would function to cater to the rush of devotees. As many as six temporary ‘Bali mandapams’ had been set up and priests appointed to guide the devotees. The press note said 175 casual employees had been appointed to distribute the items needed for the ‘bali.’ It said the bathing ghat adjacent to the temple had been cleaned and de-silted.

An information centre and book stall will function on the temple premises on the day. Devotees can make use of the services of the temple guide.

The construction of a boundary wall, a temporary bridge across the Karamana river and ticket counters and resurfacing of the road had been completed. The rituals connected with the ‘vavu bali’ are scheduled to commence at 3 a.m. on August 1.
