Kargil Vijay Diwas observed

Function organised by NCC Directorate at Martyrs’ Column



Remembering their sacrifice: The head of the ruling family of erstwhile Travancore, Uthradam Thirunal Marthanda Varma, paying tributes to Kargil war heroes at the Martyrs’ Column, in the city on Saturday.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed in the city on Saturday to remember the sacrifice made by Indian jawans who recaptured the areas occupied by enemy troops in 1999.

The head of the ruling family of erstwhile Travancore, Uthradam Thirunal Marthanda Varma, laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Column, Palayam, which had been renamed as Field Marshal General Manekshaw Nagar.

The function was organised by NCC Trivandrum Group (Kerala and Lakshadweep Directorate).

Earlier, NCC cadets and officers paid floral tributes at the memorial.

Mayor C. Jayan Babu, NCC Group Commander Colonel A.N. Rae, Lt. Col. A. Bau, Father George Mathew Karoor, Captain (Dr) J. Vijayakumar and First Officer Jose Chandanapally addressed the gathering.
