Thiruvananthapuram: The District Development Committee met here on Saturday to assess the progress of various activities and schemes taken up by the State government in the region. Addressing the meeting, J. Arundhati, Vamanapuram MLA, said the campaign to popularise rainwater harvesting was yet to pick up in her constituency. She said the voltage drop in Vamanapuram was posing inconvenience to the public, especially children preparing for examinations. District Medical Officer Kumari G. Prema told the meeting that the health administration was working in tandem with the district panchayat to prevent the outbreak of epidemics. She said the first phase of the district-level sanitation programme had been completed. The second phase is being implemented, she said. District Collector Sanjay Kaul said stern action would be taken against district-level officials who had failed to turn up for the meeting. Varkala Radhakrishnan, MP; R. Selvaraj, MLA, and other officials participated. A separate meeting was held to assess the progress of programmes taken up under the Tsunami Rehabilitation Project in Thiruvananthapuram.
