THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The newly-appointed Kerala State Sports Commission will hold consultations with a wide cross-section of society before formulating its report to be submitted to the State Government in about six months’ time. Informing this to the media here on Sunday, the Commission chairman, A.K. Pandya, said visits to the various districts was also being planned to look at the facilities available at these centres and get the opinion of people connected with sports and games. The endeavour of the Commission would be to link its policy document with the National Sports Policy, which is to be unveiled by the Union Government shortly. A questionnaire would be prepared and circulated among the public in various districts so that all concerned would convey the problems faced by them to the Commission. Besides this, the Commission would also have a look at the resources available for sports promotion in the State, and how best it could make use of the various centrally-sponsored schemes. Maximum assistanceThe Commission would also help the Government get maximum assistance from the Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan scheme being introduced by the Union Government during the next fiscal. The Sports Minister M. Vijayakumar, who was present, said the Government had proposed 32 points which it had found to be critical for the overall development of sports and games in the State. All the members of the Commission, with the exception of Olympian Shiny Wilson, were present at its first sitting on Sunday. — Special Correspondent
