Manoj, Maria clinch titles

ALAPPUZHA: Manoj Varghese (CPT) and Maria Rony (AYTTA) won the men’s and women’s titles in the E. John Philipose memorial all-Kerala ranking table tennis tournament at the YMCA Hall here on Sunday.

Manoj overcame M.R. Rajeev (AYTTA) 15-13, 11-9, 10-12, 4-11, 12-10, 15-13 in the final, while Maria defeated Shika Jacob (AYTTA) 11-6, 12-10, 11-9, 18-16.

However, Shika Jacob overcame Maria to win the youth crown.

The results: Men (final): Manoj Vargehse (CPT) bt M.R. Rajeev (AYTTA) 15-13, 11-9, 10-12, 4-11, 12-10, 15-13; Semifinals: Rajeev bt Rahul Binu Mathew (AYTTA) 11-9, 11-7, 11-7, 11-9; Manoj bt Sharath V. Joy (AYTTA) 11-13, 11-6, 8-11, 11-3, 12-10, 7-11, 11-5.

Youth boys (final): Shyam Narayan (AYTTA) bt S. Sundar (AYTTA) 5-11, 5-11, 11-9, 11-9, 5-11, 11-9, 11-7; Semifinals: Shyam bt Sharath V. Joy (AYTTA) 11-3, 7-11, 12-10, 11-5, 8-11, 7-11, 11-6; Sundar bt S. Arjun (Tvm) 11-9, 11-8, 11-5, 11-4.
