CHANDIGARH: All-India Congress Committee General Secretary Margaret Alva said over the weekendthat the civil nuclear deal would be one of the main issues during the next Lok Sabha elections. Addressing a convention of Congress workers at Panipat, she said that people all over the country were in favour of this deal and the Congress would easily return to power with thumping majority. She charged that the BJP and other opposition parties had played every trick to oppose the nuclear deal during the debate on vote of confidence in the Lok Sabha. “The vote of confidence has ended the political instability after the Left parties withdrew their support to the Government which has now emerged stronger,” she added. Appealing for unity in the party, Ms. Alva exhorted the leaders and workers to inform the masses about the policies of the Central and Haryana Government. Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda also flayed the BJP for lowering the honour of the House. He asked party men to counter the false propaganda of the opposition parties. He added that the nuclear deal would help in meeting the energy demand of every sector of economy in the future. Haryana Power Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala, Education Minister Mange Ram Gupta and local MP Arvind Sharma also spoke.
