WAY AHEAD: Shri Ponnambala Adigal, head of Kundrakudi Mutt, addressing a seminar at Kundrakudi on Saturday KARAIKUDI: Kundrakudi Mutt head Shri Ponnambala Adigal has called upon people to rise above caste, creed and colour to take the country ahead. Speaking at a day-long seminar on women development jointly organised by the Department of Women Studies of Alagappa University and Thavathiru Kundrakudi Adigalar College of Women held at Kundrakudi near here on Saturday, he said there was no doubt that nation was moving forward. “People of different faith and caste must shun ill-feelings. It would lead to further growth. “ Stressing the need for equal opportunity for women, Adigal said women had already proved that they could do wonders in a male dominated society. Hence, all stakeholders and policy-makers must come forward to utilise the services of women for the development of the country. Many poets, including the great Tiruvalluvar, had stressed the importance of women empowerment and communal harmony in their poems. Stating the importance of motherhood, Mr. Adigal said, “Motherhood is an embodiment of management theory. The concept, theory and dimension of motherhood form the basic pragmatic philosophy of management. Motherhood should lead to a better way of life. Hence, teachers, women and students should work for developing motherhood among human beings.” E. Elamathian, Registrar, Alagappa University, said women had already carved a niche for themselves in the development of the country. Women should come forward to take up new assignments. It would not only improve their families, but also bring fruitful results for the country’s development. B. Shamoondeshwari, Additional Inspector General of Police, Chennai, said women would be respected only when they were competent. Hence, they should update their knowledge day by day. S. Mohan, college secretary, S. Gokilavani, Head, Women Studies, Alagappa University, T. Ramani Devi, Joint Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Pudukottai district, nd R.K. Sundarrajan, Principal, spoke.
