Theft in jewellery shop

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Gold weighing several kg and cash totalling several lakh rupees were allegedly stolen from a wholesale jewellery shop on N.S.C. Bose Road.

Based on a complaint made by one of the employees of the shop, the police are questioning three employees. According to police, the shop owner had left the shop in the care of an employee as he had to leave town on business.

Around noon on Sunday, the shop owner’s daughter received a call from an employee who told her that two persons had come to the shop, threatened him at knife point and escaped with the valuables and cash.

The Flower Bazaar police have registered a case and are investigating.

Police said there was no chance of a break-in as the shop was fitted with burglary alarms and no one visited the shop.

The employees supplied the gold to other jewellers on order.
