Folk arts meet in districts in phases
Staff Reporter
Nagercoil: To promote folk arts, events such as Chennai Sangamam, the annual performing folk arts meet, will be organised at the district level in a phased manner, Kanimozhi, MP, said here on Sunday.
Steps had already taken to revive folk arts in the State, evident in conducting Sangamam in Chennai in which more than 15,000 folk artists from different part of the State participated. Folk artists were second to none. Hence, it was our bounden duty to encourage them with an intention to revive the dying arts, she said.
Speaking to presspersons, she said steps would be taken to start an Information Technology Finishing School in the district to develop communication skill and personality development. Kanyakumari district was an ideal place to set up an Information Technology Park.
Based on the response from youths, ‘job melas’ would be extended to other districts. The district unit of the Dravida Munnetta Kazagham had received 15,770 application forms, 66 per cent were of girls and 65 per cent of engineering students. Conducting such a special training camp and counselling would help the students and others to face the interview without fear.
There was no priority in jobs for wards of DMK activists. The DMK was committed to fight communal forces, she said.
