Children’s safety

Sir, — Today, we are witnessing many road accidents, especially near schools and colleges. Students are often injured and sometimes even lose their lives while crossing roads. I request every school to collect Re. 1 a month towards a police develop-ment fund and hand it over to the Police Department. The schools can request the police to post one or two personnel at the schools who will help children cross the roads safely.

Sir, — Even as the Minister for Energy K.S. Eshwarappa was speaking on the floor of the Legislative Assembly about seeking more power from the Centre, the streetlights in Mysore Bank Colony were on at about 4.30 p.m. They were on till almost 9 a.m. the next day. Although I tried to bring it to the notice of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike officials, no one responded to the calls I made. I had to contact the corporation commissioner and it appears that action was initiated.
